What Can God Do For Us?

đđ»ASK, SEEK, KNOCK
One day I asked my 20-year-old son, âWhatâs one question you think your generation has for God?â Without hesitation, he said, âWhat can God do for us?â
At first, it might sound selfish, because for the most part God already gives us so much: Life, family, friends, food, and shelter. But honestly, itâs a great question!
The question reminded me of JFKâs famous quote: âAsk not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country.â
Letâs ask instead: What can you do for God?Â
đđ»Here's what you can do for Him: In my previous blog âA Life Pleasing to Godâ (June 2, 2025), I talked about following His command to love Him and to love others. God also longs for us to have a personal and intimate relationship with Him through immersing ourselves in prayer, reading, and applying His word in our daily life, then sharing the Gospel with others.Â
God is all-powerful â He is our Creator, Healer, Provider. So, if you ever wondered what MORE He can do:
âAsk, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.â Matthew 7:7.
đBut before we move on â
Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
âIf you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.â Romans 10:9.
Thatâs where it all begins â nothing will separate us from our one true God, Jesus Christ.

âđ»MY SONâS QUESTION HAS ONE CONDITION
đđ»Â âDelight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.â Psalm 37:4.
The condition is a choice. God doesnât force it on us. But, âAs for me and my family, we will serve (and delight in) the Lord.â Joshua 24:15.
And remember: Godâs love is unconditional.
The Bible compares His love to a loving parent: One who lovingly disciplines their child, teaches life lessons and the importance of values and principles, and provides for their childrenâs needs such as food, education, and toys.
If a human parent provides these things for his child, how much MORE can an omniscient, omnipotent, loving God can do for us?

đWHAT GOD DID
The Bible is full of amazing stories â both in the Old and New Testaments. Â The same God who walked with Abraham, guided Moses, and inspired apostles Paul and John is still with us today.
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews 13:8.
âFor I, the Lord, do not change.â Malachi 3:6.
The following Bible stories remind me that we serve an awesome God who does the impossible for those who love Him and trust Him.
đ Real People. Real Faith. Real God.
·        King Solomon (1 King 3) â God appeared to him in a dream and said, âAsk! What shall I give you?â As king and judge, Solomon answered, âGive to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil.â Solomonâs answer pleased the Lord so much that He granted him âa wise and understanding heartâ and topped it off with what he didn't ask for: âboth riches and honor.â
·        Hannah (1 Samuel 1) â She could not conceive a child and was heartbroken. Every year she prayed and wept before the Lord asking for a son. God blessed her with a son and named him Samuel, âBecause I have asked for him from the Lord." She never lost faith in Godâs power and compassion.
·        King Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20) â Jehoshaphat walked in Godâs commandments and delighted in Him. People of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir came against him. Afraid, he sought the Lord for help. Along with all of Judah, he prayed, fasted, sang, and praised God. As they were doing so, âthe Lord set ambushesâ against their enemies âand they were defeated -- no one had escaped.â
·        Jairus & the Woman (Mark 5) â Jairus begged Jesus to come to his home to heal his daughter who was deathly ill. On the way, Jesus was delayed by a great crowd that was following him and Jariusâ daughter died. In the crowd, a woman who was suffering for 12 years from a blood disorder was healed, for she believed, âIf only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.â She was completely healed, and Jesus told her, âYour faith has made you well.â As for Jairusâ daughter, Jesus said to him, âDo not be afraid; only believe.â And his daughter lived.
Just like the people in the Bible, we're far from perfect, but we serve a perfect God - faithful, kind, generous, and full of grace.Â
âI will never leave you nor forsake you.â Joshua 1:5.
By His grace and faithfulness, we get to start anew every day. We can draw near to Him for all our needs and acknowledge Him in everything that we do because He wants to be personally involved in our life.
As for Me â I grew up Catholic, went to Catechism and said the Lordâs Prayer and Hail Mary at bedtime, not realizing it was the beginning of my faith journey. As a kid in the '70s & '80s â played outside, ran through the streets, climbed trees â looking back, I can see how God was always protecting me â whether it was near accidents, carelessness, or reckless teen decisions â God was there. In my 20s, I barely prayed unless I was desperate, but God remained merciful, patient, and faithful - even when I was not. Becoming a mom in my 30s changed everything. My husband and I gave our lives to Christ and became born-again Christians and that's when our walk with Him truly began.
âAnd we know that all things work together for good to those who love God.â Romans 8:28.

â€ïž PRAYER WORKS
God answers ALL prayers â simple, deep, difficult, or impossible.
When you read the Bible stories, pay attention to how people prayed. Their prayers were powerful, honest, specific, and full of faith. Hereâs a few that I follow:
đPray Like Â
·        Daniel â He asked God for favor and compassion in the sight of others and God answered (Daniel 1:9). Whether youâre applying for a job, hoping for forgiveness, or wanting doors to open, ask for favor. God also granted it to Nehemiah, Joseph, Esther, and is more than willing to grant us the same, too!
·        Hannah â I had children later in life and it wasnât easy to conceive. After trying all the advice friends and family gave me (from hormone treatment, feet in the air, ovulation tracking!) I finally realized all I needed was God and came across Hannahâs story. I prayed like Hannah and was blessed with my daughter. We hoped for another child, but unfortunately, I had two miscarriages and went back to praying like Hannah â honestly and specifically. I asked God for a son, and He gave us Jonathan whose name means âGift of Godâ or âGod has givenâ.
đAsk
·     Others for prayer â In the New Testament, there are many examples of Jesus and His disciples laying their hands on others to heal them of their infirmities. After 10 years of back pain, my husband finally decided to have surgery. We asked our pastor and church family to lay hands and pray over him. I, also, earnestly prayed every day because we had two very young children and we need him! God answered with a flawless surgery performed by one of the best surgeons. My husband returned to surfing, skateboarding, golfing â back to an active lifestyle with the family. God is good!Â
đđ»Pray the Bible. Pray in Your Quiet Time. And Believe!
Our amazing God performed many miracles and works in the Bible â and He still does today.  He fed thousands with a few loaves and fish. He helped faithful kings win battles. He gave instructions for building the ark and the temple. He led His people out of Egypt, gave wisdom to Solomon, and gave Joshua the strength and courage to lead.
Now, we have Jesus who prays and intercedes for us through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said that if you have faith and do not doubt, you can move mountains (nothing is impossible). And He added, âWhatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.â Matthew 21:22.
